Indigenous Comics: Dakwäkãda Warriors by Cole Pauls

Dakwäkãda Warriors is a thrilling read for fans of science fiction, zines, and cryptids.

Cole Pauls is Canadian comic book creator from Yukon and is a member of the Tahltan First Nation. Dakwäkãda Warriors (2019) is an Indigenous-futurist comic book that is written in a mixture of English and the Aishihik (Äshèy k'e) dialect of Southern Tutchone. The story is about human Protectors who are in charge of saving Earth from evil pioneers and cyborg sasquatches, in a very Voltron-esque way. The entire story is known to be an allegory of colonial violence from the Europeans in North America.

Cole Pauls' unique art style and deep story telling has earned him multiple awards. Dakwäkãda Warriors is a fascinating read and every page made me look forward to more stories from Pauls.
